tales told: bookmaking & illustration

on view: January 21 - March 26, 2017

In the Jenkins Community Gallery on the Lower Level, AAC presents a multi-generational student exhibition featuring a selection of work produced in the classrooms. Tales Told: Bookmaking & Illustration is an opportunity for students to see their work in a professional gallery.

In this setting, students and viewers alike can discover themes within the exhibition, and see techniques and skills develop with experience.

Students, ages 7-10, learned about book illustrators and artists. Focusing on a different artist each week, they explored the fundamentals of art using a variety of techniques, including drawing, painting, collage, and printmaking.

AAC’s adult students worked with books as both content and raw material. The resulting works honor the tradition of a book as a work of art in itself. And the unique art contained inside provides an opportunity for both personal exploration and expression.

Both classes were led by veteran AAC instructor Jennifer Penick.
