Drawing: The Natural World
Tuesdays, Jul 11 thru Aug 29, @ 6:30 - 8:30 pm

Learn to look and see the world like an artist. This eight-week course will focus its attention on the natural world, and teach you to record what you see, using materials like graphite, charcoal, and ink. Both indoor and outdoor exercises in line, value, and gesture will prepare you to create finished drawings of natural subjects. Beginners are welcome, along with more experienced students who want to approach drawing from a fresh perspective.

Supplies are not included in the cost of this class. One week prior to the class' start date, a supply list will be emailed to all students.

Painting: The Creative Process
Tuesdays, Jul 11 thru Aug 29, @ 6:30 - 8:30 pm

Students of all skill levels are welcome to gain confidence, experiment, and learn techniques for expressing ideas and emotions using acrylic paint and mixed media during this eight-week course. We’ll explore gesture, abstraction, mark-making, and spontaneity as we focus on the “process” of making art through exercises in both brushwork and mixed media techniques. By the end of this course, students will have a better understanding of their unique voice as an artist. We’ll appreciate the cathartic qualities of art-making as well as the emotional thrill of getting it out on paper or canvas while we complete interesting works of art along the way. This class is recommended for beginners seeking an experimental painting class and advanced students who enjoy creative environments where they can benefit from the feedback of an instructor and peers.

Supplies are not included in the cost of this class. One week prior to the class' start date, a supply list will be emailed to all students.

Drawing & Painting: The Figure
Wednesdays, Jul 12 thru Aug 30, @ 6:30 - 8:30 pm

Beginning, returning, and advanced students are welcome to explore drawing and painting in this course where we’ll capture the spirit and vitality of the human form. Activities will include quick gesture poses and contour drawings. As we become familiar with the nuances of the figure’s line and form, we will work toward longer poses. To create lively and expressive drawings and paintings, we will use materials including graphite, charcoal, and acrylic paint. We will not approach the human form with mathematical lessons on proportion. Instead, we’ll emphasize ways of seeing and guide you through exercises designed to help you capture the essence of the remarkable human form.

We will draw and paint from a clothed or nude figure model during this eight-session course. Model fees are included in the cost of this course. Supplies are not included in the cost of this class. One week prior to the class' start date, a supply list will be emailed to all students.

Painting with Acrylic
Wednesdays, Jul 12 thru Aug 9, @ 6:30 - 9 pm

Designed to offer you a solid foundation in the fundamentals of acrylic painting, this course will cover the use of various painting tools, support preparation, and color mixing. You’ll stretch canvas, complete color theory studies, and observe demos in paint application. Working from observation and photographs, you will hone painting skills while developing value, space, and form. Beginners are welcome, as well as students looking to enhance their painting skills with a more academic approach to the subject. Returning students will build upon techniques learned previously, while receiving critical feedback and direction.

Supplies are not included in the cost of this class. One week prior to the class' start date, a supply list will be emailed to all students.
