Drawing & Painting: The Figure
Tuesdays, Oct 17 thru Dec 19, @ 6:30 - 8:30 pm

Beginning, returning, and advanced students are welcome to explore drawing and painting the spirit and vitality of the human form. Activities include quick gesture poses and contour drawings, working toward longer poses. To create lively and expressive compositions, we''ll use materials including graphite, charcoal, and acrylic paint. We will not approach the human form with mathematical lessons on proportion. Instead, we’ll emphasize ways of seeing and guide you through exercises designed to help you capture the essence of the remarkable human form.

Class will not meet on October 31, November 7, and November 21. We will draw and paint from a clothed or nude figure model during this seven-session class. Model fees are included in the cost of this class. Art supplies are not included in the cost of this class. One week prior to the class' start date, a supply list will be emailed to all students.

Drawing: The World Around You

Put down your phone and use your eyes to capture the world! Short exercises and close studies in pencil, pen, and charcoal will help you hone your drawing skills, whether you have a minute or an afternoon. Subjects include people, architecture, plants, and contemporary still life. Beginners are welcome, as well as experienced students interested in refreshing rusty drawing skills, during this observational drawing course.

Class will not meet Wednesday, November 22. Supplies are not included in the cost of this class. One week prior to the class' start date, a supply list will be emailed to all students.

Experimental Painting
Wednesdays, Oct 18 thru Dec 20, @ 6:30 - 8:30 pm

Art can be exploratory and fun, so why not approach it as play? Beginning students will gain confidence as they work through experimental painting exercises, while more advanced students will be challenged to do something new. In this acrylic painting course, problem solving, spontaneity, chance, and unique materials will direct artistic processes yielding interesting and complex works of art. All skill levels are welcome to explore representational and/or abstract painting in this relaxed, supportive class. Our instructor will offer one-on-one instruction, and lead informal discussions to create a learning environment where knowledge and skills are shared by all participants.

Class will not meet on November 22. Supplies are not included in the cost of this class. One week prior to the class' start date, a supply list will be emailed to all students.

Mixed Media Inspiration
Wednesdays, Oct 18 thru Nov 1, @ 6:30 - 8:30 pm

During this short, three-session course, we will take our inspiration from the techniques and materials of contemporary artists and illustrators. With an emphasis on play and spontaneity, we will use instructor Jennifer Penick's favorite techniques – doodling and drawing, printmaking, painting, collage, and more – to experiment with unfamiliar approaches to mixed media, yielding wonderful works of art. No experience is required for this low-commitment course that’s guaranteed to have you walking away with impressive works of art.

Supplies are not included in the cost of this class. One week prior to the class' start date, a supply list will be emailed to all students.

Mixed Media: Young at Heart
Wednesdays, Nov 29 thru Dec 20, @ 6:30 - 8:30 pm

Picasso said “All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.” We’ve all walked into art museums where we overheard someone say “A kid could do that,” but still revel in the work ourselves. In this short, 4-session course, we will explore some of these ideas as we make art that’s kid-inspired. For this course, adult participants will try some of instructor Jennifer Penick’s favorite kid-tested (and approved) mixed media projects that also have special visual appeal for grown-ups. All projects will be easy and fun to make, and participants will be surprised by their sophisticated and frame-worthy results.

Supplies are not included in the cost of this class. One week prior to the class' start date, a supply list will be emailed to all students.

Handmade Holidays
Tuesday, Dec 5, @ 6:30 - 8:30 pm

With the holidays right around the corner, you can be prepared to cross some names off your list with unique, handmade gifts, crafted by you! We will assemble elegant magnets with individual designs, images, and collages, of our own creation, providing you with the perfect token for someone special. To “wrap” things up, we will use an easy printmaking technique to decorate one-of-a-kind folded paper boxes, to give your gifts an extra memorable touch!
