In this hands-on workshop, learn relief sculpture techniques from contemporary artist Mark C. Parsons. Work with Parsons to create a wax tile that will be incorporated into a large bronze sculpture. Students will...

Look at and discuss scientific imagery in new ways, and find inspiration! Experiment with texture and line in clay. Pour plaster to create a mold that you can take home. Make a wax casting of your relief sculpture that will become part of a future bronze sculpture.

In his New York studio, Parsons will assemble the wax relief castings created during this workshop-along with the work of other students in Tulsa, Oklahoma and Grand Rapids, Michigan-into a bronze sculpture that will be on public display in 2009.

  • Clay and plaster can be messy; you may want to bring a smock.
  • This workshop runs all day; please bring your lunch both days. Lunches and mid-afternoon breaks are supervised.
  • This workshop is free and all arts materials are included.
  • Students with disabilities are encouraged to participate.
  • This workshop is made possible by VSA.
